Ridgeway Book Nook

The Ridgeway Book Nook came out of a competition proposed to the students, following requests for a place to read at school. They could enter a sketch or model, and presented their ideas to a judging panel consisting of teachers, MGMA, Jenifer Hayashi Dans and the West Kirby Book Shop. It was encouraging to see such enthusiastic entries, creating an inclusive area for everyone in the school.

The entries were asked to consider the school’s Reading Routes, a part of their reading for pleasure initiative. Each route on the map represents a different genre, which students are assigned each term. They are provided their chosen book for free, handing it back at the end of term having read a new novel. The initiative looks to encourage young people to find how they enjoy reading and propel them forward on that path.

The winners of the competition, Silver and Lola, then met with MGMA to discuss how to take their ideas forward. They also got the chance to visit the shopfitters during the process to see how the design, developed from their initial proposal, was coming along.
